The Bible
“But in what way shall we attain to this settled happiness of soul? How shall we learn to enjoy God? How obtain such an all-sufficient soul-satisfying portion in him as shall enable us to let go the things of this world as vain and worthless in comparison? I answer, This happiness is to be obtained through the study of the Holy Scriptures. God has therein revealed Himself unto us in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Synopsis
"Here is a story of how a missionary who had lived for many years among one of the child races of Central Africa was challenged through reading a newspaper cutting to study afresh the first few chapters of the book of Genesis. Like a flash, through his knowledge of the primitive ideas, phrases and folk-tales of the African tribe he saw the real meaning of the inspired opening chapters of our Bible. The author seeks to show the profound effect on his own mind of this re-reading and to lead the reader to a new understanding of Genesis i-xi. Not only do some of the puzzling ideas and phrases in the old record take on a new and reasonable meaning, but the ancient chapters as a whole are enriched with new power. They are seen to be a worthy introduction to the story that follows of the pioneers of the chosen race, leading up to the revelation of God's greatest word -His Son. Yet there is no suggestion of rationalizing the old stories, or writing them off as childish fables. In the light of the author's experience in Africa, they take their place as the inevitable and logical introduction to the most wonderful book in the world."
